Why was my .realtor domain revoked?

If you received a notice that your .realtor domain has been revoked, it is likely because the domain name did not comply with the official naming rules for brokerages. 

Your .realtor domain may have been revoked for one or more of the following reasons:

  • It does not match your formal firm name as listed in your M1 record

  • It does not align with a name that you actively use in your business and can provide proof of use

  • It includes prohibited elements, such as:

    • A street address (e.g., "123MainStreet.realtor")

    • A team name instead of a firm name

    • "REALTOR" at the secondary level (e.g., "TopRealtor.realtor")

    • A name that is substantially similar to an affiliated entity whose primary business is real property advertising

  • It was used for services outside of real estate, such as mortgages or marketing

How Can I Get a .realtor Domain Again? If your domain was revoked but you would still like a .realtor domain, you have a few options:

  1. Register Your Brokerage’s Formal Name – The easiest way to ensure compliance is to register a domain that exactly matches your brokerage name in the M1 record. Example: If your firm is "Cloud Real Estate," your permitted domain is "cloudrealestate.realtor."

  2. Use a Variation That Meets the Rules – You may include numbers or words before your firm name. Examples: "buywithcloudrealestate.realtor" or "212cloudrealestate.realtor."

  3. Request Pre-Approval for a Different Name – If you use a different name in your marketing, you may apply for approval by submitting marketing proof.

How to Request Pre-Approval If you wish to register a domain other than your formal firm name, you must:

  • Provide marketing materials that show active use of the name

What Happens If I Don’t Take Action? If your domain has been revoked, it is no longer active, and visitors will no longer be able to access it. If you do not register a compliant domain, you will not be able to use a .realtor domain.
